The brain produces dopamine, a neurotransmitter that makes you feel excited when you win. However, it does this even when you lose, which can trigger the urge to keep playing in order to get that dopamine rush again.<\/p>\n
While gambling can be a fun pastime in moderation, it has the potential to negatively affect your self-esteem, relationships, health and well being and work performance. It also has societal and community level impacts, which involve non-monetary costs that are invisible to the gamblers themselves.
