The design features intimate, windowless spaces that resemble living quarters in order to make patrons feel at home and encourage them to stay longer. Slot machines are placed throughout the space to distract patrons and keep them playing. In addition, the odds are altered to maximize profits. For example, a casino once offered 3:2 blackjack payouts but now pays only 6:5 for every $2 wagered on the table.
Casino is an epic crime drama that focuses on the mob’s control of the Las Vegas gambling business in the 1980s. The film was directed by Martin Scorsese and stars Robert De Niro as Don Rickles, the mob’s enforcer, and Sharon Stone as Ginger McKenna, a casino hostess who becomes the target of the Chicago mob and the Teamsters union. The movie is based on the book Casino by Nicholas Pileggi.
