Poker is a card game played by two or more people with a variety of chips. The goal is to form the best hand possible with the cards you’ve been dealt. If your hand wins, you’ll collect the pot.

Each player receives seven cards. Cards may be dealt face up, or one at a time in rotation. After the draw phase, players may choose to fold, check, or raise.
The first round of betting starts with the ante. This is a small bet made by all players, typically in the region of $1 or $5.
The dealer has the final say in card-shuffles. He or she can discard a few of the cards in the pack.
Another round of betting begins after the discarding process. During this phase, players can choose to discard up to three cards.
The most common form of Poker is called Texas Hold’Em. Other variations include Three-Card Monte, Stud, and Lowball. Some games, such as Five-Card Draw, are more complicated than others.
In a typical game, each player buys the same number of chips. Players are also required to bet or raise the pot. Usually, the maximum amount allowed for bets is placed in the pot.
